FAQ

Q What is the main indication for the Boussignac CPAP + Nebulization?
A

Severe asthma crisis (Peakflow between 30 to 50%). Minimal CPAP 2-4 cm H2O.

Q How is the Boussignac CPAP + Nebulization different from standard nebulization?
A

When using standard nebulization, a significant amount of medication is lost to the atmosphere during exhalation. Micro channels in the Boussignac CPAP System create a "Virtual Valve" that directs the nebulized medication to the patient and prevents it from escaping to atmosphere during exhalation.

Q What are the real benefits of using the Boussignac CPAP + Nebulization?
A

Clinical studies show that the Boussignac CPAP System increases drug delivery by 30%. Nebulized particle size = 1µ which facilitates deep lung penetration and absorption while reducing Auto-PEEP.

Q What are the steps and flow/pressures required to add a nebulizer to the Boussignac CPAP System for the administration of medication while managing asthma crisis?
A

Follow the steps below:

  1. Fill the nebulizer bowl with the prescribed medication and attach to the nebulizer "T".
  2. Insert the nebulizer "T" with the 22 mm male port into the facemask and the 22 mm female port into the Boussignac CPAP System.
  3. Open the flow to the nebulizer to 6 L/min.
  4. Set the flow for the Boussignac CPAP System to 10 LPM, which will deliver approximately 3 cmH2O of positive pressure.

Q CPAP is not indicated for asthma and can create a barotrauma.
A

This is true EXCEPT that the Boussignac CPAP System is an open system reducing the risk of barotrauma.

  [top]

Q CPAP can create alveolar hyperdistension.
A

Yes, but with the Boussignac CPAP System the pressure level can be kept low (only 2 to 4 cmH2O) which removes the auto PEEP, opening bronchi and directing the 1µ particle size of nebulized drug deep into the alveoli lungs.

Q CPAP can create a bronchospasm because fresh and dry gas (oxygen) create a broncho spastic action.
A

True: but Boussignac CPAP System + Nebulization delivers humidified oxygen which may prevent bronchospasm.

Q Are there other indications or applications of Boussignac CPAP + Nebulization?
A

Yes, cardiac asthma.

  [top]

Q Are the pressures different for the treatment of cardiac asthma?
A

Yes, for cardiac asthma set the flow for the Boussignac CPAP System at 20 LPM in order to achieve CPAP of approximately 7.5 cmH2O.
